The exquisite Pulcinella Venetian papier mâché mask is made by artisans in Venice, Italy. Papier mâché masks started to appear at the end of the seventeenth century.
Pulcinella a witty, philosophical, melancholic and easy going character who comes from Commedia dell'Arte.
For papier mâché a model of the mask is made in clay. This is covered with chalk to build a negative cast. Papier mâché is placed inside of the chalk mould. When dry the mask is painted white, then parts in gold leaf are added and the mask is painted and decorated. Finally, the mask is aged with wax.
All leather and papier mâché masks come with a certificate of authenticity that they are genuine Venetian Masks and that the papier mâché masks are created in the traditional method and are hand painted.
All masks are made to be worn and to fit an average adult face.
